'We Journey With Jesus Beside Us'

Charity

Charity at St Dunstan's

At our school, we recognise the importance of following the call of Jesus to live lives with a commitment to the greater good. Through being committed to works of charity, we are developing in children their understanding of the responsibility that has been placed upon us to do what we can to show solidarity with all members of God’s family.

Our commitment to the support of those less fortunate than ourselves leads us to support both local, national and international organisations and charities in their work with those in need throughout the course of the academic year.

These include:

  • Cafod

  • Wood Street Mission

  • Caritas in Action

  • Manchester Central Food Back

  • The Poppy Appeal

How we develop the children’s understanding of ‘charity’ at St. Dunstan’s?

Treat others with love

The simplest way we can express charity is to speak, act and think with love:

“Love is patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth. It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.“

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

At St. Dunstan’s we teach the children to remember to always treat others with kindness and compassion, that anyone in need is our neighbour, and that we do what we can to help those who are suffering.

Volunteering/Serving Others

The children are given opportunities to volunteer for service to others around the school in an age-appropriate way.
