Year 3's Food Discovery Adventure!
Date: 13th May 2025 @ 1:44pm
This year, Year 3 have taken part in an exciting Food Discovery Programme! They explored a wide range of food-related activities and investigations to learn about where their food comes from, how it is grown and how it tastes!
The children worked closely with a farmer named Janine, who runs an all-natural farm that uses no pesticides or tractors. Everything grown on her farm is organic, and they even use pigs to plough the fields: no need for petrol-powered tractors!
The programme began with Janine bringing in organic produce from her farm for the children to see, smell, touch and taste. Following this, the children had the chance to cook with the fresh ingredients, making couscous salads and a delicious soup that they could take home.
We also planted crops at school and have been growing them carefully. This will lead up to our very own Market Day, where the children will sell their produce to the school community!
Excitingly, Year 3 also went on a trip to Moss Lane Farm in Eccles. The children put on bee suits and got up close to working beehives, tasted local honey, planted onions and explored the world of mini-beasts. There were many animals on the farm for the children to interact with, including sheep, horses and roosters. It was a truly exciting and memorable trip!
