'We Journey With Jesus Beside Us'

Year 6E / 6C

 Welcome to Year 6

Miss Eglin and Mrs Caiger (class teacher), Mrs Stevens (teaching assistant) would like to welcome all children, parents and carers to our class page.

Welcome to 6E!

Year 6 is a challenging yet exciting year in which we work hard and have lots of opportunities to develop our skills. In our class, we have 21 sporty, confident and hard-working pupils who are taught by Miss Eglin (our kind and caring class teacher) and Mrs Stevens, our TA (we crowned her the 'Countdown Queen' - she is amazing at it). As a class, we love to work as a team and enjoy trying new things such as Forest School and Ukuleles.

Morning:

As soon as the school gates open at 8.45, we walk sensibly into school, politely acknowledging the staff we pass on our way into class. Once in class, we begin our day with a SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) activity and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, we get delicious bagels to eat. Then, when the bell rings at 9.00, we usually begin with Arithmetic and Maths. During this time, we develop our number sense, reasoning and problem solving skills. As a class, we really enjoy Maths!

Break:

As soon as the bell rings at 10.30, we go onto the yard for breaktime with the rest of UKS2 (6C, 5D and 5G). This is a time for us to see our friends, play games and eat fruit. We are very lucky because we have lots of different equipment to play on, for example: the trim trail, the fireman's pole and the bouldering wall. We can even get competitive with a game of football or basketball!

Mid-morning:

When the whistle blows at 10.45, we return to class and continue learning. This is usually the time we do Reading and Writing. In Reading, we use poetry to improve our fluency and read lots of interesting texts as part of our comprehension lessons. We really enjoy acting out a poem and performing it to our peers. In Writing, we develop our SPaG  skills and create interesting big writes.

Lunch:

At 12.15, it is time for lunch which is when our wonderful lunchtime organiser, Ms Dee, takes care of us. We get 30 minutes to play outside and like at break time, we can play with all the fantastic equipment - we even have a sports coach who sets up small competitive games for us! Then we get 30 minutes in the dinner hall to eat our lunch.

Afternoon:

At 13.15, our afternoon lessons begin. These lessons include: French, History, Geography, P.E, Science, PSHE and RE. We really enjoy all of these lessons but PE, RE and PHSE are our favourites because we get to work in small groups and discuss important themes and topics.

School uniform

School uniform is worn by all children in all classes from Nursery to Year 6. This supports our equal opportunities policy in school. For fundraising purposes, there will be occasional days where children do not need to wear uniform. All uniform must be clearly named and the school cannot take responsibility for losses.

The uniform is:-

  • Royal blue knitted jumper or cardigan with our school logo (available online from Price and Buckland)
  • Light blue shirt of blouse
  • Grey skirt or trousers
  • Black shoes (no trainers, sandals or heels)
  • Grey socks or tights
  • School royal blue and yellow striped tie

In the summer term, girls may wear a blue and white gingham dress.

PE Kits

PE will take place on Tuesdays. On these days, come into school in your PE kit:

Black tracksuit bottoms (not shorts as it will be colder)

A plain t-shirt

A tracksuit top or jumper - any colour, but if it’s black or blue, even better!

Plain, black trainers
