'We Journey With Jesus Beside Us'

Year 5D / 5G

Welcome to Year 5

Mrs Disbury and Miss Gavaghan (class teachers), and Mrs Mares-Page and Mr Ramirez (teaching assistants) would like to welcome all children, parents and carers to our class page.

Hello, ola, bonjour, guten tag, kon’nichiwa, ni hao, ciao, salami and pele o! Welcome to our diverse Year 5 classes, 5D & 5G. We have lovely teachers who are called Mrs Disbury and Miss Gavaghan as well as helpful teaching assistants, Mrs Mares-Page and Mr Ramirez. We respect each other’s differences whilst embracing the values of our Roman Catholic beliefs. We play together, learn together and grow together (this is from the shared write from both classes).

In 5D, on Mondays we do PE first thing in the morning so your child will need their PE kit. On Tuesdays, we have the ICT afterschool club. On Wednesdays, we have forest school and ICT as part of our school day but you can choose to do forest school as an after school club on Wednesdays too. On Fridays, we go swimming. Every Thursday, we have French, it is our school’s chosen language. Every day, we have two break times. One is 15 minutes long and the other is 30 minutes long. Also, we have daily lessons which include maths, arithmetic, writing and reading. We have bagels every two days (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and fruit is optional.  You can bring a packed lunch or you can have school dinners which are hot and fresh. School dinners change every day and because we are a Catholic school, we have fish every Friday.
Freya, 5D

We have apps to help develop our education at home. They help enhance our general knowledge about the things we have been learning in class. They consist of: Times Table Rock Stars (T.T.R.S), Seesaw, Numbots, Oxford e-books and Epic Books. If you are putting lots of effort and time into your homework, you may earn dojos.
Tomiwa, 5D

School uniform

School uniform is worn by all children in all classes from Nursery to Year 6. This supports our equal opportunities policy in school. For fundraising purposes, there will be occasional days where children do not need to wear uniform. All uniform must be clearly named and the school cannot take responsibility for losses.

The uniform is:-

  • Royal blue knitted jumper or cardigan with our school logo (available online from Price and Buckland)
  • Light blue shirt of blouse
  • Grey skirt or trousers
  • Black shoes (no trainers, sandals or heels)
  • Grey socks or tights
  • School royal blue and yellow striped tie

In the summer term, girls may wear a blue and white gingham dress.

PE Kits

PE will take place on Mondays. On these days, come into school in your PE kit:

Black tracksuit bottoms (not shorts as it will be colder)

A plain t-shirt

A tracksuit top or jumper - any colour, but if it’s black or blue, even better!

Plain, black trainers

Homework / Reading

Instead of written homework this year, we would like you to practise your maths skills on Times Tables Rock Stars and read a lot! We expect you to read for a minimum of 30 minutes each evening. This will really help you to make good progress in all aspects of your English.

Reading books are being sent home. They will be changed on a Monday or Thursday so that we can ‘quarantine’ books before they are read again by other children.

There are no reading records for parents / carers to complete this year so please read regularly as it will help you.
